  • ABOUT

Situated within the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Queens Head is a beautiful historical building in the heart of the idyllic village of Sedlescombe. Dating back to the 14th Century (possibly even earlier) the pub was used by the notorious Hawkhurst Gang and the smugglers tunnel can still be seen from the cellar.

The Queens Head exudes character and charm with its exposed beams and large open fireplaces.

The main bar is centredaround a huge inglenook fireplace with large dining areas either side and a further room round the back with comfortable seating and sofas. Summertime can be enjoyed in the large and luxurious beer garden with tables that overlook the village green. With the River Brede, the Powder mill Reservoir and the many vineyards that surround the village, the area offers many picturesque walks.

You are always welcome at The Queens Head where we serve good food and real ales in a warm and friendly atmosphere!

    OAKFEST 2015

IN MEMORY OF ANDYThe idea of Oakfest was first conceived back in 2013 by Matt Parsons, in memory of his best friend Andy, who was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma - a rare form of Bone Cancer.

At the tender age of 17, Andy was treated with four months Chemotherapy and had to have an amputation. He also had operations on both lungs to remove tumours. After treatment he received the news on his 18th birthday that his condition was terminal. He sadly passed away in February 2004.

In 2014 Matt together with his father John, decided to hold a one-off all day OAKFEST Music Festival, to mark the Tenth Anniversary of Andy's death, with all proceeds going to The TEENAGE CANCER TRUST.

The Festival was such a success that local people requested it be repeated in following years, so that donations could be made to other deserving causes.

Due to the sheer volume of people who had attended OAKFEST 2014, and the massive support from Musicians, local people and businesses nearby, Matt and John decided to look for a larger venue. They finally decided on an idyllic field near to the Cinque Port Town of Rye, East Sussex. What could be better than enjoying a balmy Summer afternoon, listening to your favourite music with friends and family.

Each year progressively more people are attending the Festival. In 2015 and 2016 a staggering collective total of £5,700 was raised for The OLIVER CURD TRUST - a charity which provides fully equipped holiday accommodation to families, supporting children and young people in the UK, suffering from childhood cancer and other life threatening illnesses. In 2016 we were also able to make a £500 donation towards an assisted wheelchair for a child in the local area.

All volunteers, organisers, musicians, photographers and helpers give their time for free. The Venue, Bar, Stage, Lighting, Sound System, Real Ales, Food for the Barbecue, Raffle Prizes and Portaloos are all sponsored by local people and businesses - for which the Festival could not go ahead.

Our thanks go to them all!

  • The Bull at Benenden is situated in the heart of the classic village of Benenden. Nestled on the edge of the village green, the pub is perfect for enjoying real ales, local cider, fine wines and good traditional food in a jolly atmosphere with friendly service and company! Only a short drive from some of the most beautiful castles, stately homes and gardens in the Weald, such as Bodiam Castle, Hole Park Gardens, Leeds Castle, Sissinghurst Castle and Gardens and Great Dixter. The Bull is the perfect stop off for a quick tipple, light lunch or supper.
So along with our beautiful village, local church, community shop, great walks, cricket on the green and pretty surroundings there are many reasons to visit us. Built by William Bugg Esq. as a private residence in 1608 on the site of a much earlier building, The Bull did not become a ’public house’ until a few years later. Designed around a huge chimney, the pub is full of fascinating architectural features such Chinoiserie windows, inglenook fireplaces, carved beams and lots of nooks and crannies. We have furnished it with antique tables and chairs, cosy rugs and cushions, low lighting, candles and antique portraits which together create the perfect atmosphere, transporting you back to the early 17th Century.
If you are looking for a modern chain type pub we are not the one for you!
Coaches, horses, dogs and children welcome!
